FBI Director Kash Patel defended changes to the bureau’s hiring restrictions after Senator John Kennedy questioned the removal of bestiality as an automatic ground for disqualification.
The exchange
During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Patel said the previous wording could exclude trafficking victims forced into abusive acts. Voluntary criminal conduct would still disqualify applicants, he said.
The reel shows the questions and Patel’s answer. It does not show the full hiring policy or the documents behind it.
The context
The changes have also drawn scrutiny from Senate Democrats, who have requested records explaining the revised standards and their effect on hiring. Their letter to Patel is dated 14 September 2026, the day before the hearing.
Patel’s explanation about trafficking victims has not been independently verified by Titus Today. The Democrats’ letter documents their challenge to the change; the underlying hiring rule has not been reviewed for this story.
